More Ebay

According to Internetnews.com, "Despite missing expectations, eBay had some bright spots. It brought in 3.9 million new users in the fourth quarter. Overall, sales were helped by strength across all categories, but especially with computers, collectibles, toys and entertainment devices.

It was also a pretty good year for eBay. Gross Merchandise Volume, which is the total value of all successfully closed listings on eBay's trading platforms, hit a record $34.2 billion during 2004, which represents a 44 percent year-over-year increase from the $23.8 billion reported in the full year 2003.

Christie Update

Catching Up: According to Larry Thompson's article on the 2004 Fall Christie show in the Upper Canadian, show owners Jeff Gadsden and John Forbes have decided to continue on as partners and "try to put their differences behind them". Since Spring 2004, the Gadsden family had been negotiating to buy the show outright, and the story that shares were being offered in the show circulated throughout the dealer community. Add to that a reported public argument at the Fall show, and opposing letters from the owners being handed out to show dealers, and you have a recipe for rumours of the show's demise and a lot of uncertainty. The major issues facing the owners now seem to be at least temporarily resolved and the Spring 2005 show seems likely to occur as scheduled.

Vets Want Medal Auction Halted
According to a press release by a veteran's group, the medals of Dollard Menard are up for auction in Montreal January 23-27, 2005.
Quote:" The 49-member National Council of Veteran Associations today released a statement, indicating that the medal awarded toLt.-Colonel Dollard Menard in regard to the brilliant courage shown by theFusiliers de Montreal, which he commanded, at the battle of Dieppe on August 19, 1942, represents a valuable story of the French Canadian contribution in World War II. The request that the medal be purchased by the Canadian War Museum had been turned down by Mr. Joe Geurts, CEO of that organization. A further denial of responsibility was contained in information provided to NCVA by Lieutenant-General James Gervais, former Deputy Secretary and former Deputy HeraldChancellor of the Chancellery, who indicated that an upgrading of the medal could only be approved by the Crown in England."
