CBC Profiles UK Memorabilia Thief
CBC TV's The National runs a documentary concerning the efforts of a BC family to retrieve the Logbook of a Lancashire Bomber pilot who took part in the famous "Dambusters" night bombing raid during World War II. An unscrupulous British collector has apparently grifted many families out of similar military mementoes.

Vets Treasure Cross
The Victoria Cross won by Cpl Fred Topham for his actions as a medic, March 24, 1945, is in danger of being sold to a British collector for $319 000 if veteran's groups cannot raise the $275 000 needed to keep the medal in Canada at the War Musuem. Topham died in 1974 and his estate has decided to sell it. CICB has donated $25 000 to the cause:
"British tycoon Lord Ashcroft ... [t]he millionaire and former treasurer of the British Conservative Party has the world's largest private collection of Victoria Crosses, many obtained amid acrimony. He's believed to have been behind a record bid when a British airman's medal sold for nearly $600,000 earlier this year."
